A fun birthday celebration turned tragic when 27-year-old Ramon Diaz-Soria lost his life after jumping off a boat at Lake Lanier in Georgia.
The incident happened while friends were celebrating on a stationary boat. Ramon, who didn’t know how to swim, jumped into the water wearing a life jacket. Sadly, the jacket was not fastened correctly, and it slipped off. Witnesses said he quickly went under and never came back up. His life jacket was later found floating nearby.
Friends tried to rescue him, but it was too late.
Search and Recovery Efforts
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was alerted right away. Search teams used sonar equipment to find his body, which was discovered the next evening in 60 feet of water. Authorities confirmed the cause of death as drowning.
A Painful Loss
Ramon’s sister, Abigail Diaz-Soria, described him as her “best friend and protector.” She said he was kind, generous, and always looking out for others. A GoFundMe page has been started to help the family with funeral costs.
