Trump slammed for new ‘disrespectful’ comments on Texas floods following remark that made people ‘want to throw up’

Former President Donald Trump is encountering criticism for comments considered insensitive and “disrespectful” following his visit to the flood-affected areas of central Texas. The catastrophic flash floods, caused by unprecedented rainfall, have resulted in the deaths of at least 129 individuals, with over 150 still unaccounted for. Homes, vehicles, and vacation cabins were swept away as the Guadalupe River rose to perilous levels.

During a segment on Fox News with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, he was prompted to deliver a message to the bereaved families. His reply—”Maybe they should’ve had bells or something go off”—ignited outrage on social media. Detractors criticized the remark as tone-deaf, especially in light of the magnitude of the disaster and the ongoing rescue operations.

At a press conference in Kerrville, Trump sought to illustrate the extent of the calamity by likening the swelling river to a massive wave in the Pacific Ocean. “This is like a giant, giant wave… that even the best surfers in the world would be afraid to surf,” he stated. Users on social media expressed confusion and anger over the analogy, with some arguing that it trivialized the pain experienced by the victims.

Responses online varied from disgust to incredulity. One user commented, “This makes me want to throw up,” while another reproached Trump for sounding as if he were describing an amusement park attraction rather than a deadly natural disaster. Others ridiculed his surfer comparison as grossly inappropriate.

In contrast, First Lady Melania Trump provided a more thoughtful and empathetic statement, extending sincere condolences to the mourning families. “We are grieving with you,” she expressed, offering support during this time of national sorrow.
