She attended Oregon State University and later Portland State University, where she balanced her studies with part-time jobs, including working as a sales assistant for heavy construction equipment and at a Hooters restaurant in Beaverton, Oregon. Sara’s foray into modeling began in 2005 when she appeared in Playboy magazine, showcasing her affinity for her alma mater by having her body painted to resemble an Oregon State Beavers t-shirt.
