Dick Van Dyke, 99, Reflects On The ‘Curse’ Of Outliving Friends As He Nears 100

Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke, soon to turn 100, shared reflections on his long career and the challenges of outliving many loved ones. Known for iconic roles in Mary PoppinsChitty Chitty Bang Bang, and The Secret Squirrel Show, Van Dyke has been part of Hollywood for nearly a century.

In a recent interview, he spoke about a special project he was planning with his late friend Ed Asner—an adaptation of The Odd Couple—which ended with Asner’s death in 2021. Van Dyke lamented losing many friends over the years but remains positive. His wife Arlene noted, “That’s the curse of living to almost 100.”

Reflecting on Mary Poppins, Van Dyke recalled co-starring with Julie Andrews, who helped him with his singing despite his struggles. He praised her patience and their wonderful time working together.
