The passing of the 76-year-old man known to metal fans as the “Prince of Darkness” came only weeks after his much-lauded final concert with Black Sabbath.
Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, has passed away at the age of 76. In a statement, Ozzy’s family confirmed his passing on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” read the family statement.
“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” closed the statement, signed by Sharon Osbourne, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis Osbourne.

Ozzy’s death comes only weeks after his final performance with Black Sabbath at Villa Park in Birmingham, United Kingdom — and days after a press release announced a film based on the sold-out show.
The July 5 reunion, billed as “Back to the Beginning: Ozzy’s Final Bow,” was caught on film by Mercury Studios and will be released as a concert film documenting first time in 20 years that the band’s original lineup performed together.
The concert was hosted by actor and fan Jason Momoa, and featured renowned rock and heavy metal bands like Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Pantera, Slayer, Tool, Anthrax, and many more.
More than 42,000 people attended the concert, and over 3 million watched through a paid livestream. Ozzy spent much of the concert seated, as he recovered from several spinal surgeries and complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Ozzy was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2005, though he would not make his condition known to the public until many years later. In 2020, Ozzy and Sharon opened up about his health in an interview with Good Morning America.
The singer revealed that his condition came to a head in February 2019, when a “bad fall” drove him to the operating room for neck surgery. Afterwards, he began to experience numerous complications affecting his nerves.
In the interview, Sharon said that her husband was also afflicted by Parkin 2, a type of Parkinson’s disease. “It’s not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body,” said Sharon at the time.
Ozzy went on to describe some of the effects of the neck surgery, including numbness in his arm, coldness in his legs, and other issues. He found it hard to identify nerve pains, and was often unsure if they were related to his diagnosis.

Ozzy had already had a very serious accident in 2003 while riding a quad bike that left him gravely injured. The 2019 fall exacerbated these injuries, and by 2022, he had to go back to the operating room for spinal surgery.
His health issues continued into 2023, when he was forced to cancel a tour of the United Kingdom and Europe due to what he described as being “physically weak.”

In his final days, Ozzy found joy not only in his last concert but also in a moment of deep paternal pride.
On July 7, just over two weeks before his passing, the Black Sabbath frontman sat in the front row to witness his daughter’s engagement.
Kelly’s partner, Sid Wilson — a musician, DJ, and member of heavy metal band Slipknot — proposed right in front of his father in law, the “Prince of Darkness.” Kelly shared a photo of the moment on Instagram, captioned:
“I think this picture says it all!”
It was a final chapter filled with meaning — and moments that hopefully afforded Ozzy and his loved ones both closure and joy. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Osbourne family at this difficult time.
