Trump under fire for posting fake AI video of Obama being arrested

Donald Trump sparked controversy after sharing an AI-generated video of former President Barack Obama being arrested by FBI agents in the Oval Office. Posted on Truth Social, the video had no disclaimer indicating it was fictional. It was captioned, “No one is above the law,” with The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” playing in the background.

The video used real footage from November 2016, when Obama met with Trump after the latter won the presidential election. The AI-altered portion then shows Obama in handcuffs and later in federal prison.

This came shortly after Tulsi Gabbard, now Director of National Intelligence, accused Obama-era officials of fabricating intelligence on Russian interference in the 2016 election. Gabbard claimed she would hand over evidence to the Justice Department, calling for potential criminal referrals.

“Their goal was to subvert the will of the American people,” Gabbard said. “Their abuse of power threatens the integrity of our democratic republic.” She emphasized that every person involved should be prosecuted.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia dismissed Gabbard’s claims, calling them “one more example of the director of national intelligence trying to cook the books.”

Critics argue Trump’s AI video is a distraction from his own legal scrutiny and resurfaced ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died while awaiting trial.

This isn’t the first time Trump has shared AI-generated content, but many are calling for stronger transparency and regulation on such media, especially from public figures.

As the backlash grows, concerns mount over how AI-generated misinformation can fuel political divisions and erode trust in democratic institutions.
