DHS Fires Back At Gavin Newsom After Criticism Of ICE Raids At Pot Farms
The Department of Homeland Security is responding to ongoing raids at California farms, which include actions against Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, while highlighting the issue of unaccompanied alien minors and their apparent exploitation as inexpensive labor in these operations.
This response follows the raid conducted by ICE agents at a marijuana farm in California, with footage of the arrests gaining widespread attention.
“The Biden administration has lost approximately 300,000 unaccompanied children—many of whom have been trafficked and exploited,” the DHS stated on X. “At the marijuana facility in Ventura, California, [ICE] and [CBP] law enforcement rescued 8 unaccompanied migrant children from what appears to be exploitation, violations of child labor laws, and potentially human trafficking or smuggling.”
“Unaccompanied migrant children should not be compelled to work at marijuana facilities in California,” the DHS account further emphasized, accompanied by a historical illustration of a man standing up in a town hall meeting to express his views.
Shortly thereafter, Newsom expressed his outrage regarding the raids, leading the DHS account to respond: “Why are there children employed at a marijuana facility, Gavin?”
On Friday, President Donald Trump declared that he has granted federal immigration agents “total authorization” to defend themselves following confrontations with protesters during an enforcement operation at a cannabis farm in California.
Trump was en route to Washington from Texas, where he had surveyed areas impacted by catastrophic floods that resulted in at least 120 fatalities. During his trip, he published an extensive post on Truth Social addressing the violence directed at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
“I am returning from Texas and watched in disbelief as THUGS violently hurled rocks and bricks at ICE Officers while they were traveling down a roadway in their car and/or official vehicle. Significant damage was inflicted on these brand new vehicles,” the president began.
“I am fully aware that these Officers are struggling with permitting this situation to unfold, as it demonstrates a complete lack of respect for LAW AND ORDER,” he remarked.
“Consequently, I am instructing Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, and Border Czar, Tom Homan, to direct all ICE, Homeland Security, or any other Law Enforcement Officer who encounters thrown rocks, bricks, or any other type of assault, to halt their vehicle and detain these individuals, employing whatever means necessary to accomplish this,” Trump stated.
“I am granting Total Authorization for ICE to defend itself, just as they safeguard the Public. I never wish to witness a vehicle transporting a Law Enforcement Officer being attacked again! AUTHORIZATION IMMEDIATELY GRANTED FOR ARREST AND INCARCERATION,” he declared.
Federal authorities executed raids on Glass House Farms located in Camarillo and Carpinteria. Authorities utilized tear gas, and there were reports of objects being hurled at agents, as reported by Fox News.
The United Farm Workers indicated that one worker succumbed to his injuries, but DHS provided additional clarification regarding the incident.
“This individual was not in and has not been in CBP or ICE custody,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin informed Fox News Digital. “Although he was not being pursued by law enforcement, this person ascended to the roof of a greenhouse and fell 30 feet. CBP promptly requested a medivac to the location to provide him with care as swiftly as possible.”
Border czar Tom Homan urged Democratic politicians to moderate their rhetoric against immigration officials earlier this week following the shooting of a Texas police officer outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility last weekend.
“The rhetoric directed at the men and women of ICE is escalating, particularly from members of Congress,” Homan stated during “America’s Newsroom” on Monday. “We have senators, we have congresspeople who liken ICE to the Nazis, equate ICE with racists, and this trend persists.”
